History of Invention,
Home of Innovation

There’s a place for your business here on the Round Foundry & Marshall’s Mill estate. Based at the heart of a dynamic and creative community and nestled in the historic cradle of 18th century industry, the area is home to restored historic mill spaces, flexible, contemporary interiors and a digital infrastructure that offers the fastest on-demand broadband service in any multi-occupancy building in Leeds.

Winner of the Urbanism ‘Great Neighbourhood’ Award in 2015, the estate is located just a few minutes’ walk from the Leeds station south entrance and within Leeds South Bank, one of the largest city centre regeneration initiatives in Europe, this is a perfect place to experience life in the place where modern Leeds originated. From showers and bike storage to lively bars and independent cafes arranged around numerous cobbled courtyards, the Round Foundry estate is home to a number of high-quality amenities which will help your business thrive.

This is one of the few areas in the country which is dubbed a digital hub and can actually live up to the name. I’m happy to say that throughout our many expansions at Marshalls Mill it’s always been a smooth process and we’re committed to the area for a long time to come, it meets all the needs of a modern digital company like ours. We see ourselves here until we’ve outgrown the development, but even then I’m sure we’d find a way round it –maybe we’ll just have to take over the Mill one floor at a time.

The transition from a relatively small, wholly owned independent to a branch of a multinational sounded daunting but the move from the hustle and bustle of City Square to the warm neighbourliness of Marshalls Mill was wholly positive. The environment was refreshingly different from the one we had left and it helped us to create a new business culture…Marshalls Mill allows us to enjoy the contrast of a building soaked in history with a fresh, modern interior.

This office had a different character which you don’t find in city centre or business park office blocks. There is a sense of community here and local business owners are friendly and very welcoming.  We were looking for a bright open planned office space which would ideally be close to the city centre as some of my colleagues commute via train or bus. The office space we hold has original features in place and this allows for a creative working environment. A lot of our clients when visiting comment on how unique this building is and how its conversion into offices is a brilliant idea.

The move to Marshalls Mill was wholly positive for SimpleUsability. The new space has allowed us to develop extra research studios and observation rooms. All of the research studios have been fitted with state-of-the-art facilities, which we plan to rent to other market research customers. The new office also has built in stadia seating, imported from the US, which provides us with a great space for training and events. It’s not all hard work either: our offices also have a shuffleboard – a game which is similar to curling – and requires a lot of practice.

We love being part of Leeds’s most creative community at the Round Foundry, so we were pleased to be able to move into a new space just across the road from our old studio at Tower Works. There’s a buzzing atmosphere in the area and we hope to be here for many years.
